Breastfeeding in Public and Feeding Swingers
Tuesday, January 30, 2007

Since this is a breastfeeding blog, I'd be remiss if I didn't speak on feeding in public. Indeed, breastfeeding in public has been in the news a lot lately. Honestly, I can't understand why. I probably won't be in the "boobie camp" with most breastfeeding advocates, but I simply don't understand what's wrong with being discreet when feeding your baby in the eyesight of others. That may just be me, but I think breastfeeding in public may be inappropriate depending entirely where you are.
Some mothers who are brazen breastfeeders plop out their boobie wherever, just because they think it's their motherly right to do so -- no matter who's around and how they may be causing some people angst. I know because I've seen it. I, on the other hand, simply don't think that way. In fact, when I was a breastfeeder I didn't want anybody to see me breastfeed my baby unless they happened to be my husband or mother. In my mind, breastfeeding is an intimate moment and bond that my babies and I shared. It wasn't a feeding frenzy for the world to see. That's my two cents on the subject. I probably won't be bringing it up much on this blog. But if I do, you'll already know where I stand.
One last thing. I just have to mention this blog post on the Huffington Post called Swinging Breasts by Lisa Goldstein. Apparently some breastfeeding mothers who are friends are co-feeding each other's babies. One word: Eeew!
