Breastfeeding and Environmental Sustainability
Friday, November 2, 2007
Did you know that by simply breastfeeding a mother can help save our environment? The latest issue of Mothering magazine (Nov/ Dec 2007 issue) points out all of the environmentally damaging effects infant formula manufacturing has on our earth. The statistics are quite mind-blowing. This is a certain call for more mothers to feed their infants naturally.

hmmm... I left a comment from my husband's computer. I guess I did something wrong.
Basically what I said was that this is crazy! Considering the fact that every mom ALREADY MAKES MILK for her babies. It is free, it is vastly superior (perfect, in fact) and has no negative impact on the environment. Contrast that with formula -- what MOST PEOPLE USE -- which is expensive, lacking in all but the most basic nutrition, and destructive to our planet. It boggles the mind, really. - At November 2, 2007 9:05 PM, Crunchy Domestic Goddess said...

ugh. i went to rate this entry and i accidentally clicked on "i disagree" instead of "cool." i'm sorry.
this has always been a beef of mine about unnecessary formula feeding - it's so hard on the environment. hope more people will wake up and take this info to heart. - At November 3, 2007 9:20 AM, Jennifer James said...

Hi Eilat -- You're right. It is crazy! What's even more crazy is that all of this never dawned on me before. I'm glad I know now.
Hi Amy -- So glad you cleared up the button thing because if I saw "I disagree" I would have thought: What idiot is reading my blog? ;)
Thank you both as always for stopping by!
