O

ne of the best summertime treats is now in season: Watermelon!

Frosted Watermelon – A Fun Way to Get Kids to Eat More Fruit!

Seedless watermelon cut into ½- to ¾-inch thick slices

Yogurt

Granola or similar cereal

Using your favorite cookie cutters cut shapes out of ½- to ¾-inch thick slices of seedless watermelon.  Or, if you prefer, use classic cut watermelon wedges.  Frost with vanilla or other flavor yogurt.  Sprinkle with granola.

Watermelon Yogurt Mint Smoothie

1-to-2 cups seedless watermelon chunks
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves or to taste
1 cup lemon yogurt
Dash cinnamon

Puree the watermelon, honey and mint quickly -- do not over blend. Pulse in the yogurt and cinnamon just until smooth.  Serves 1 or 2.

Who doesn't have fond memories of making melon balls to cool off from the summer heat or just watching our parents slice through the tough skin to be treated with the most juicy fruit on earth?

In celebration of watermelon season, we have some great recipes and whimsical ideas for using watermelon this year. These recipes are great for both children and adults. Enjoy!
